FAQ
Below are some of the most frequently asked questions I receive. If you don’t see what you’re looking for or have further questions, please reach out to me.
Digital Downloads & Files
How will I receive my pattern after purchase?
As soon as your payment is processed, you will get instant access to your files on the order confirmation page. You’ll also receive an email with a direct download link so you can save your patterns to your device anytime. In case they are ever lost or you need access to them at a later time, patterns you have purchased will always be available under My Account > My Patterns.
What file formats are included with my purchase?
Every pattern download includes two PDF versions:
Color Pattern PDF: Features full-color blocks with high-contrast symbols (includes both a 1-page summary chart and a 4-page enlarged chart for easy viewing on tablets or printing).
Black & White Pattern PDF: High-contrast symbol-only layout (includes 1-page and 4-page views), perfect for saving printer ink or marking off your stitches.
I can't download or open the file, what should I do?
If you need another file format or any type of assistance in downloading your pattern(s), please reach out to me and I will assist you as quickly as possible.
Supplies & Stitching Questions
Do your patterns include physical materials like fabric or floss?
If a listing says pattern or PDF download, it is for an instant digital PDF pattern only. You will need to supply your own fabric, tapestry needle, and embroidery floss.
If a listing says kit, then it will include the needed supplies to complete the pattern (other than the hoop). Please check each kit listing for more information about what is included.
What brand of embroidery floss do your patterns use?
I design patterns with standard DMC floss in mind. However, all pattern PDFs also include handy conversion key tables for alternative brands like Anchor, J&P Coats, and Sullivan where available.
Do I have to use the recommended fabric count or color?
Not at all! Fabric counts listed (such as 14-count or 18-count Aida) are just suggestions based on standard frame sizes. You can stitch on any fabric count or color you like, just keep in mind that using a higher count fabric (like 18-count) will result in a smaller finished piece, while a lower count (like 14-count) will make it larger.
Are your patterns beginner-friendly?
Most of my patterns are very beginner-friendly! Most designs use 100% standard full cross stitches with zero complicated fractional stitches or heavy backstitching unless specifically noted in the product description.
How do cross stitch kits work? Why do they take time to ship?
Cross stitch kits are put together by hand. Essentially, I act as your personal shopper. I will get the fabric, floss, and proper embroidery needle, print out the pattern, and get everything shipped off to you. Because I do not carry stock of these items, they may take me a few days to acquire and ship. This is why there is a set 3-7 day processing time on kits.
Shop Policies & Commercial Use
Can I sell physical items I make using your patterns?
Yes, absolutely! You are more than welcome to sell your finished, hand-stitched physical pieces (at craft fairs, online, etc.). I just ask that you give credit to the Grumpy Stitcher as the pattern designer where applicable.
Can I share or resell the PDF pattern files?
No. All digital files, charts, and graphics are protected by copyright and are for personal use only. Re-distributing, sharing, re-uploading, or selling the digital pattern files or any portion of them is strictly prohibited.
What is your return policy?
Because digital downloads are delivered instantly upon purchase and cannot be “returned,” all PDF pattern sales are final. However, if you run into any technical issues with your download or notice anything unusual with a chart, please reach out to me. I’m always happy to help!
Returns on kits purchased are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you ever have any issue with a kit you purchased, please let me know so I can try to make it right.

Can I request a cross stitch pattern?
Absolutely! If you have a cross stitch pattern request that you would like me to make and put up for sale on the website, please reach out and let me know. I’d love to hear your ideas.
Do you offer commissions?
If you are looking for a personal cross stitch pattern such as a person, pet, name, etc. that will not be sold to the public but just to you, please reach out to me to discuss pricing and options. I’d be happy to discuss it with you.
